This looks like an interesting new book, American Nations, by Colin Woodard, which examines the cultural and political divide in this country as seen in 11 distinct regions. It is a further exploration of similar books by Joel Garreau and David Hacket Fischer.

I have this book -- haven't read it yet though. It looks interesting particularly given the political climate we have now.
ReplyDeleteLooks interesting but I question the regional view. Seems most states are divided within themselves. Look at Austin deep in the heart of Texas. Very liberal city. Or, look at the divide in the state of Washington where the Cascades cast a rain shadow on politics as well. This country has become so deeply divided that it no longer represents regional differences, but rather ingrained ideological differences, spread largely through the media.
