President Obama was the first president to vote early. The first lady had voted even earlier, sending in an absentee ballot from the White House. It is part of a well orchestrated Democratic attempt to get voters to the polls before election day. Reuters estimates that as many as 40% of registered voters could do so before November 6, and this has given Obama an outsized advantage based on early voting polls. Many political analysts felt this is what gave Obama an insurmountable lead in 2008, which has forced the Romney campaign into a mad scramble to get their voters to the polls early. Yet, Romney himself appears to be waiting until election day to cast his ballot.

The "voter fraud" in Ohio in 2004 -- putting up only a handful of voting stations in university and other Democratic leaning districts -- should have convinced everyone to vote absentee or early. I sent my ballot in before I left town on Wednesday and it does make me a bit uncomfortable, but I have to put my faith in the system. I have also voted early at the polling place and loved that too.
ReplyDeleteI'll be doing calls or canvassing this weekend (hopefully calls since it's raining/snowing here) and will be encouraging voters to get their votes in now. One bad weather system can wipe out an entire election, as we may yet see on the East Coast.
For all you facebookers, this should make the rounds:

Yea, I've seen this one, although I reposted it on FB for my conservative friends ; )
ReplyDeleteYes, I'm hoping this will make the rounds to all those out there who might dismiss his accomplishments or think we'll be better off under Romney.
DeleteThis is rather amazing,

and kind of late in the game, given so many Iowans have already voted. How the editorial board can view Romney's "tax plan" and vacillating positions on the economy seriously is beyond me. The De Moines Register had endorsed Obama in 2008.
"Romney tax plan"
DeleteRomney claimed he never raised taxes in Massachusetts but the record shows something quite different:

Let's hope enough people have voted so this makes no difference.
ReplyDeleteThere is often a problem that is overlooked when we have early voting: people will send in their ballots without having them properly witnessed, notarized, or signed. This is why something like 10-20000 ballots were dismissed during the Coleman-Franken electoral count. Luckily, the good guy won the recount while Coleman went into private business.
ReplyDeleteIf you know anyone who is voting via absentee ballot, please advise them to have it done properly.
I have a feeling there are going to be a lot of disgruntled Republicans come Wednesday morning, as odds are clearly in Obama's favor for re-election despite the deceptively "close" polls. While Nate Silver's odds may be a little high,
ReplyDeletehttp://news.yahoo.com/nate-silver-joe-scarborough-wanna-bet-113615600.html
most odds keepers have Obama with around a 60% chance in winning as he leads in nearly all the key battleground states.
One reason for the close national polls is that Romney's has an outsized lead in southern and Rocky Mountain states, which tilt the polls. Some pundits have claimed that Gallup, Rasmussen and other polls draw too heavily from Southern voters in their polls.
I still think it's a nail biter, but I never take anything for granted. As we've discussed here before, he looks great to us even as we criticize many of his decisions, but that's not how half the nation looks at him. (They only criticize.)
ReplyDeleteNeedless to say the right wing pundits are jumping all over Christie for co-operating with Obama,
ReplyDeletehttp://thinkprogress.org/election/2012/10/31/1120421/christie-obama-conservatives/
"Conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh, who normally reserves his derision for Democrats, went so far as to say of Christie: “He’s fat and a fool. Don’t listen to Governor Christie. He doesn’t know what he’s talking about.” But Limbaugh clinched the quote with his reasoning for being so vicious: “He makes fun of me all the time.”
DeleteHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!
Another Romney video - interesting guy:

Vote early - I understand there have been some very seriously delays and long lines at the polling booths in Florida, again. This especially so in Democratic districts. Let's hope many sent in absentee ballots so that their votes do count.
