Sewards's New Folly

Sarah Palin will be in Auburn NY on sat to participate in a celebration of Alaska's 50th year as a state. There will be a parade and then reception at the Seward Mansion historical site. The date has no significance for Auburn or Alaska but there it is.The Seward Mansion is now smack in the middle of Auburn surrounded by buildings and streets but it is still an interesting visit.I'm hoping that she states she can see"Mexico" from there on a clear day.Mexico is a small burg up near Lake Ontario near Oswego.

  1. Here's a little gem I did not know till just reading the web site at Seward Historical site. The home was actually built by his father in law in 1816-17 and one of the workmen was a young lad named Brigham Young.Yes that Brigham Young.

  2. Thanks for this, John. I think Goodwin mentions that he moved into his wife's family home, but there wasn't much detail beyond that.

  4. Referring to the Seward print, Palin said to the crowd, "They're looking at a globe and they're pointing to Alaska in this painting, and I'll betcha anything what Seward was pointing out was: 'Lookie there, you can see Russia from Alaska.'"

    And the crowd went wild.
